Artist's Statement:
When I was presented the opportunity to be a part of the Golden Rule Project, all I could think about was the tragic day that took place on February 12, 2007 at Trolley Square. The thought kept going through my mind that if every person in the world tried to apply the Golden Rule to someone else, tragic events would happen with far less frequency.
I wanted to do something that I could dedicate to all those who were affected that day and show respect to those we lost. As I thought about the effects of the Golden Rule, it just brought a smile to my face. When the Golden Rule is applied, it makes people smile and it makes people happy. Throughout my piece, I have a variety people smiling. Some of these people were affected on February 12, directly and some were not. What I wanted to accomplish is this is how we should see people everyday. If someone is not smiling or is not happy, we need to apply the Golden Rule towards them. Let us make some smile today.
Thanks to Ferrari Color for donating the border and printing for this piece.
